When I learned that my college friend Jennifer and her band, The Honorable Mentions were trying to write and record a song a week I felt simultaneously happy for her as the music is mad cool, and also guilty because I don’t have a similar aspiration or my own. I want one! Gimme.

So what’ll it be? Write a poem a day? No, that’s already part of what I do all day. Stories? Ditto. Essays? Ditto. I want my challenge to be interesting, simple to execute, and I also want it to stretch my imagination. I got it… a Photo a Day!

I always had this idea that being a good photographer was a noble cause. I love paging through albums of expertly crafted photographs. My husband, for example, seems to have an eye for a good shot. I want that eye for no reason other than “because”.

Once I buy a memory card for my camera (which will be tomorrow) I will start posting my pics here. I am not promising that all of them will be great. Maybe none of them will be great. The point is that I will try very hard to do this for at least a month. From April 16 - May 16 expect at least one photo a day. Then we’ll see how it goes.

And for those of you who care, the camera I will be using is my Canon Powershot SD450. This is because it is small enough to fit in my purse and takes decent pics so there will be no excuses. Absolutely. None.
