Do you want to become a professional ghost writer? I first started off as a freelance writer for magazines and other publications. My first year as a writer was 2002 and I made $60. I was thrilled at the time but I quickly learned that I could do better.
So, I started writing for others as a ghost writer. My income picked up considerably and before long, I was making at least $2000 a month.
It’s even easier to get started right now than it was when I began ghost writing. So, I thought I’d put together a little “business plan” for you. If I started my career right now, this is what I would do.
Associated Content
Join here if you haven’t already and start submitting. Choose topics you are interested in and want to write about. However, make sure there is a high variety. Also make sure that your articles are well written and of the highest quality. This is going to be your portfolio. I have around 100 articles on this site right now, but you can get away with just having ten or twenty.
Start Bidding
Which bid site do you want to use? There are some wonderful sites out there. Writers talk about having success on Elance, vWorker, oDesk
, and others. I personally use vWorker but it’s because I built up a reputation over the years.
Remember to choose just one site and exclusively focus on that until you win your first bid. Once you get that first bid, you will have a much easier time. I placed 5 bids a day or so for a solid month until I won my first job on vworker.
Join a Writing Team
This can really help you build your income. Keep your eye out for information on writing teams on the job posting sites. Also, look to see if there are any companies on the sites that you use that may be looking for extra writers. Google “writing teams” and see if you can find any. Send in a resume and fill out any applications.
If you stick with this, you can win your first job within a few weeks. Then, it will just get easier and easier to make the money that you want. I get into some of these concepts in more detail in the next post.
