21 Days to Domestic Goddess Status
This is my site Written by on May 27, 2009 – 6:04 pm

You may recall my quest to becoming a domestic goddess. About one week ago - no wait make that two weeks ago, my house was nice and clean and organized. I had routines - one in the morning, one at night - and I followed them diligently. And then - I simply stopped. Without warning. I stopped following the routines. Total, they took about one hour each day. One hour to stay on top of the laundry, the dishes, make sure the bathrooms are cleaned and the floors swept.

I’m trying to figure it out - why would I stop something that was working, and that’s so easy to maintain? I can say I was busy but that’s not really true. I was no more or less busy than I usually am. I could say that I was physically unable clean but that would also be false. I just don’t know what happened.

So, I’m going to stop dwelling on it. Instead, I’m going to move on. The fact is - I want to be one of those people who has a constantly clean home. I just learned a lesson - that it takes a while for action to lead to a tried and true habit. In fact, I read that it takes 21 days. So I thought I’d come up with a little plan. I will perform these routines, inspired by the flylady and adapted to fit my needs, every single day.

Morning

  • Get dressed for the day, eat breakfast, brush teeth and groom (looking good is part of being a goddess, right?)
  • Pick up master bath, scrub or whipe down if needed.
  • Make bed. Fold laundry and hang up clothes.
  • Tidy up upstairs hallway if not already. Tend to second upstairs bath.
  • Take load of laundry downstairs if I need to and do it.
  • Scoop litter (in the same room as laundry)
  • Clean kitchen if still messy from night before. Put away dishes.
  • Tidy up downstairs. Sweep if needed. Tend to downstairs bathroom.

Evening routine

  • Clean up after dinner.
  • Tidy up house (makes the morning so much easier and only takes 15 minutes)
  • Get ready for bed.

I know it looks complicated. The first day is always a challenge. But by the third day or so, the process takes about thirty minutes in the morning (not including eating) and about fifteen at night! Seriously, this shouldn’t be hard. In fact, it isn’t hard. I just need to commit.
